The programs, the Nutu Score, logging, coaching and your account. Updated for Nutu 2.5.
About Nutu and the programs
What is Nutu?
A digital health app designed for healthy living and weight management, including a CDC-recognized Diabetes Prevention Program for people with prediabetes. Small, meaningful nudges help you build habits that last, one small step at a time.
What's included?
Two programs, Healthy Living and the Diabetes Prevention Program, both with the Nutu Score and a 24/7 AI Coach. In the Diabetes Prevention Program you also have a Certified Coach who checks in each week, and you join a Social Team. You can pay monthly or yearly; both give you the same features.
What is the Healthy Living Program?
For people who want to lose weight and improve their general health. The Nutu Score keeps you in balance, SMART goals keep you moving, and your AI Coach guides the small changes.
What is the Diabetes Prevention Program?
A year-long, evidence-based program that follows the CDC curriculum. For people with prediabetes, losing 5–7% of body weight and adding 150 minutes of activity a week cuts the risk of type 2 diabetes by 58%.
It runs one year in two phases. Phase 1 is about losing weight and moving more, with a new lesson every 7 days. Phase 2 is about keeping it off, with a lesson every 4 weeks. This week's lesson is on the This Week card on Home.
How can I be successful?
Log what you eat (a photo is enough). Be active each week. Weigh in at least once a week. Read your lessons. Talk with your coach and your team. Set small SMART goals, and have fun with it.
The Nutu Score
What is the Nutu Score?
Real-time feedback on your balance for the day, your health compass. It counts what you eat and drink, your activity, sleep and body measurements, and is shaped most by the calories you take in and burn, including the energy your body uses just to keep going. No calorie counting needed: Nutu does it for you.
What does Home show about my score?
Today's score and a label like Near balance. The bar runs from under to over, with 0 for balance; the lime green part is your goal zone. Aim to end the day in it. Under the score: your protein so far and how much to aim for at your next meal.
How does it change during the day?
It resets at midnight. Your body keeps using energy while you sleep, so the score drifts down overnight and through the morning, and each meal you log brings it back up. If you reach a plateau, Nutu adapts to you.
Why did my score change after a meal?
Every meal card shows Today's Nutu Score with this meal, so you see where your day will land before you log. Most also show Why it changed: one sentence from Nutu's AI on what moved it.
How is a food's score worked out?
From its nutrition, compared with the Dietary Guidelines for Americans: under 30% of calories from fat, under 10% from saturated fat, under 10% from added sugar, over 5 g of fiber, and under 2,300 mg of sodium a day. Protein counts in its favor: it keeps you full and helps keep muscle.
What do the colored dots mean?
Food and beverages on a meal card have a traffic-light dot, set by the food's fat, saturated fat, added sugar and sodium per serving, with a bonus for fiber. Green: choose often. Yellow: go easy. Red: limit. The score says how much a meal moves your day; the dot says something about the food itself.
Coaching
What coaching do I have?
Every member has the Nutu AI Coach, 24/7. In the Diabetes Prevention Program you also have a Certified Coach, trained by a CDC-approved provider, who checks in each week and replies within 1 business day.
AI Coach or Certified Coach?
The AI Coach answers instantly, based on your profile and what you log; the more you log, the more it helps. Your Certified Coach gives personal support each week and takes on more detailed questions.
How do I talk to my coach?
Tap Coach in the bottom bar. In the Diabetes Prevention Program, switch to the Certified Coach tab for your Certified Coach.
What can coaches help with?
The program and the app, encouragement, and working through challenges. Coaches don't give medical advice.
Logging food
What's the quickest way to log?
Tap the round +, then Scan food, and photograph your plate. Nutu works it out while you carry on; a card on Home says when it's ready to review. Check it and tap Done. Nothing is logged until you do.
What other ways can I log?
From the +: Describe it (say or type what you ate), Search foods, or Log again for your usual or a recent meal. For packaged food, open Scan food and switch to Barcode.
Why does Nutu ask me a question after a scan?
When something is hard to tell from a photo, like the milk in a coffee or how much you ate, Nutu asks one quick question. Answer it, or tap Not now and edit the card yourself.
How do I fix a food Nutu got wrong?
Tap it on the meal card to change the amount, swap it or remove it. + Add more adds anything the photo missed. Tell us how we did with the thumbs at the bottom.
What if my food isn't found?
Our database has over a million foods and restaurant meals, but some are missing. Retake the photo, or search by name. If nothing matches, pick the closest food and adjust the amount.
I logged late. How do I change when I ate?
Tap the time under the photo, like Lunch · Today, 1:05 PM, pick the day, time and meal, then Done. For a meal already logged, open it from History and tap Save changes: it moves to that day's score. Photo meals start at the time you add the photo.
How do I edit or delete a logged meal?
Open it from History, change it and tap Save changes, or tap Delete meal (Undo brings it back).
How do I log a restaurant meal?
Menu › Food › Eating out shows places near you; tap Map for more. Each dish shows where your score would land. A photo taken at a restaurant is matched to its menu.
Where are my favorites and recipes?
Menu › Food › My meals: switch between Recent, Favorites and Recipes, and tap Log to log one in a tap.
How do I create a recipe?
Menu › Food › + New recipe. Name it, set the servings, and add ingredients by search, barcode or a pasted list. Nutu scores one serving.

Activity, sleep, weight and reports
Where did Exercise, Sleep and More go?
The bottom bar is now Home, Coach, the +, History and Profile. Everything else is in the menu (the three lines at the top left of Home): Food, Exercise, Sleep, Weight, Reports, Goals, Future You and Tree of Wisdom.
How do I log activity, sleep or weight?
Open the menu and pick Exercise, Sleep or Weight. In the Diabetes Prevention Program you can also log your weight from the This week card on Home. Activity and sleep can sync from your phone.
Where are my reports?
Menu › Reports. Your report shows food, water, weight, exercise, sleep and your Nutu Balance, plus any lab results you've added. Switch between D, W, M and Y for a day, week, month or year, and use the share button to send it or save it as a PDF.
Syncing apps and devices
How do I sync with Health Connect?
Menu › Settings & help › Additional Connectivity › Health Connect. Turn it on, tap OK, choose what Nutu can read, and tap Allow.
What is Health Connect?
It links health apps on Android, like Samsung Health and Fitbit. On Android 14 and later it's in your phone's Settings; on Android 11 to 13, download it from Google Play, open it and choose which apps share data.
How do I sync with Apple Health?
Nutu asks when you sign up. If you skipped it, tap Connect steps in the Activity tile on Home and allow what Nutu can read. To change it later: your iPhone's Settings › Privacy & Security › Health › Nutu.
